Landscape Design

Design is the discipline that makes everything else work. Before a retaining wall goes in, before a single tree is planted, we resolve the whole picture — levels, circulation, planting, materials — so the finished space feels inevitable.

ALCO landscape design — recent project across Franklin and Auckland

About this service

Our landscape design process starts with how you want to use the space and ends with a plan precise enough to build from. We work across sloped and flat sites, new builds and established gardens, and we're equally comfortable with a single courtyard or a full property masterplan across Franklin and Auckland. You get a design that suits your lifestyle, climate and budget — not a template.

Frequently asked

Common questions about landscape design.

Do I need a landscape design before building?
Yes — even a single-page plan saves money. A design resolves levels, drainage, materials and planting before anything is ordered or excavated, so the build is faster and you get the outcome you actually wanted rather than a series of compromises decided on site.
Do you design landscapes outside Pukekohe?
Yes. We're based in Pukekohe East and design across Franklin, Paerata, Karaka, Waiuku, Howick and the wider Auckland region. Most sites are within an hour of base, which keeps consultations and revisions practical.
How long does a landscape design take?
A residential design is usually 3–5 weeks from site visit to final plan: a week for the site survey and brief, two weeks for the concept, then a week or two of revisions before producing the construction-ready plan and planting schedule.
Do you design for new builds?
We coordinate with builders from the foundation pour onwards. Coming in early lets us resolve drainage, levels and access before they're locked in, so the landscape is finished on handover day rather than retrofitted afterwards.
